PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A person has died after being struck by a vehicle on a freeway in north Phoenix overnight.
Details about the crash are limited. Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers responded to the crash around 3 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 17 near Union Hills Drive.
Arizona’s Family confirmed at the scene that one person has died in a crash involving two vehicles. Another person was hospitalized.
Northbound I-17 is closed in the area. Drivers are being diverted off at Union Hills Drive and Yorkshire Road, which has created a lengthy backup. There is no estimated time for the freeway to reopen.
Southbound I-17 traffic headed toward central Phoenix is unaffected.
It’s currently unknown what led to the crash.
