A fatal crash and car fire in Modesto closed roads for several hours on Saturday night, the California Highway Patrol said. Modesto Fire Department responded to the scene on Ladd Road, east of Tully Road to find a 3-vehicle crash with one vehicle on fire. Modesto Fire said crews treated eight patients involved in the crash, with one flown to a nearby trauma center. One person was declared dead on scene. The six other patients were taken to local area hospitals for further care, according to Fire. The roadway was closed until just before midnight as crews investigated what led up to the crash.
