Introduced as an ornamental garden plant in the mid-19th century, the Japanese knuckle generates around £246.5 million in repair work a year, grows through cracks in areas such as pavements, walls and fences, damages light structures such as garages and greenhouses, standing up pipes, and clogging drains.
