Seventeen students and five teachers embarked on an exciting expedition from Chandigarh to the city of Kathmandu last week under MAITREE 2023, a cyclothon organized by the Adventure and Cycling Club of Bhavan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh. They will cover a challenging distance of 1,300
kilometers for 12 days.
The event was opened by RK Saboo, Chairman of Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan Chandigarh Kendra. Saboo praised the cyclists for their unwavering determination, noting how their journey would transcend borders and inspire people from all walks of life. He expressed his desire to be part of the cycling team.
The theme of the cycloton is ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, which means ‘the world is a family’. The team aims to strengthen the long-standing ties between India and Nepal. Participants would cycle through destinations like Haridwar, Kashipur, Sitarganj, Kapilvastu and Bharatpur. The Indian Embassy in Nepal will host the team. In addition, the students would participate in a cultural exchange program at the Daffodil School in Kathmandu.
MAITREE 2023 is the fifth expedition of Bhavan Vidyalaya, chandigarh. Previous trips of hers included visits to Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar in 2018 and the Dandi March expedition in Gujarat in 2019 to mark the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Vineeta Arora, director of education and general manager, praised the enthusiasm of the cycling team and wished them a good trip.
