Zara Caps Zara Kids has posted an impressive trend in its opening weekend with collections of over Rs 22 crores. The development of the film is something that no one anticipated, which is why it is proving to be one of the biggest surprises of 2023. The Laxman Uttekar film starring Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan in the lead had a Buy One Get One Free offer during the opening weekend, which helped the film garner more views than usual.
2.50 Lakh tickets sold free for Zara Hatke Zara Bachke during the first weekend; producer to bear the costs of the same
According to our sources in the trade, Zara Caps Zara Kids it sold approximately 2.5 lakh free tickets in its opening weekend, the cost of which was borne by producer Dinesh Vijan. “As part of the Buy One Get One Free programme, approximately 250,000 tickets were sold free of charge to viewers. The average price per ticket was Rs 250, which is a gross amount of Rs 6.25 crores. In Net terms, it cost Dinesh Vijan Rs 5.30 crore,” a business source told Bollywood Hungama.
The offer is also valid today, but only for the initial 10,000 tickets and is expected to close from tomorrow only to reopen for the second weekend. At the end of the race, about 3 lakh tickets would be free to give away to the audience at a cost of Rs. 7.50 crores for the filmmaker. The free ticket scheme showed the film to a larger audience base, which in turn resulted in higher returns and faster word-of-mouth spread from the audience.
However, as you have been discussing the trade, buy one get one free is not really an offer that is sustainable in the long term for the film industry, as eventually it is the producer who is investing the money to buy the tickets. If we remove the free ticket from the collections as well as the buy one get one free offer, the actual value of Zara Caps Zara Kids it would be around Rs 15 crore as apart from the free ticket, a part of the audience who bought tickets due to the offer, might not have bought at a higher price.
Basically, affordable prices are the future, and instead of offering offers as incentives, it is better to control the prices of feature films.
