Mumbai:
Mumbai Police have arrested two teenage college students from Colaba for posting a picture of Pakistani Independence Day celebrations as their status on Instagram.
Police said the arrests were prohibitive in nature and the duo were released after a warning.
According to the police, a businessman from Colaba approached the Colaba police on Monday and filed a complaint that some children from Colaba were using Pakistani Independence Day celebration as their Instagram status and claimed that this could create community tension.
Based on the complaint, the Colaba Police Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) on Monday night tracked down the children and took them to the police station and placed them under pre-trial arrest under CrPC 151(3).
Police checked their mobile phones and found that these children had used Pakistani Independence Day as their Instagram story status. The police took a screenshot of their mobile phones and confiscated them.
“From their conduct, manner of speaking and demeanor, it appears that they were doing this with the intention of disturbing law and order in the country on August 15,” a senior official said.
Pakistan, which was born after a bitter partition of India in 1947, marks August 14 as its independence day from the British.
