Shenandoah man dies after rollover crash into ditch early Thursday

A man from Shenandoah, Iowa is dead after a rollover crash early Thursday.

According to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, the crash happened shortly after midnight Thursday in Adams County.

An initial investigation found a 2003 Chevy Silverado was going westbound on 235th Street — about a mile west of Dogwood Avenue. The driver was going above the posted speed limit and did not make a curve.

The truck left the road, went into the ditch, and rolled several times. The driver, identified as Michael Dean Wilson, 37, was ejected.

He was transported to a hospital in Corning where he was pronounced dead. He was not using his seatbelt, according to the report.

Woman in wheelchair dies after pedestrian crash in North Omaha

A 55-year-old woman is dead after a crash in North Omaha late Tuesday.

According to a release from the Omaha Police Department, the crash happened shortly before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday near 60th Street and Ames Avenue.

At the scene, police officers found the woman and took her to the hospital. She died shortly after.

An initial investigation showed the woman was going eastbound on Ames on a motorized wheelchair. An eastbound 2012 Chevy Silverado “collided with her,” the release states, and she was thrown from the wheelchair.

The investigation is ongoing, OPD writes.

Public invited to open house Thursday over Omaha Streetcar Project

Thee public is invited to learn more about the Omaha Streetcar Project at an open house Thursday.

The Omaha Streetcar Authority will host the event from 5:30- 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the lower level of the Durham Museum.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions to the streetcar’s construction team. They will also get “updates on utility work, upcoming mainline track construction and the future of the transit service,” a social media post reads.

As there is no formal presentation, people are welcome to drop in any time during the open house. Free two-hour parking is available in the two-level parking deck attached to the Durham.

Mayor John Ewing Jr. shared the latest on the ongoing project in a news conference Wednesday.

Fremont Police arrest man after hit-and-run pedestrian crash

Police arrested a 21-year-old Fremont man after a pedestrian was hit on Tuesday night.

Sebastian Jose Gutierrez is facing charges of leaving the scene of an injury accident, not having an operator’s license, and tampering with physical evidence.

According to a social media post from Fremont Police, the incident was reported at 9:12 p.m. near East 23rd Avenue and Buckingham Road. Officers reported finding a unconscious man lying in the road and taking him to the hospital.

During the course of investigating the incident, officers found the suspect vehicle in a parking lot a few blocks away, the report states.

“The vehicle was seized, and the owner was contacted,” resulting in the arrest of Gutierrez.

All told, nearly 31,000 pounds of food was donated to St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry, the Micah House in Council Bluffs, and Care Corps Lifehouse in Fremont.

Creighton volleyball to compete in regional semifinals Thursday

On Thursday, Creighton volleyball will take the court for the Sweet 16 for the third-straight season.

The Jays will play Arizona State in the Lexington Regional Semifinal at noon Thursday on ESPN 2. The winner will play either Kentucky or Cal Poly in the Regional Final on Saturday.

The team punched its ticket to the regional semifinals after defeating Northern Iowa in four sets (25-18, 23-25, 25-22, 25-21) last Friday.

With the win, Brian Rosen became the first Big East coach to win two NCAA Tournament matches in his first season.
