After finishing his 15th season, Greg McDermott’s future as head coach of men’s basketball at Creighton University has become a little clearer.

With a successor already set to take over, First Alert 6 found out Monday McDermott plans to coach for two or three more years.

His successor, Alan Huss, played for Creighton from 1997 to 2001 and worked as an assistant under McDermott for six years.

“He’s an outside-the-box thinker,” McDermott said to First Alert 6 in May. “He’s one of the best offensive minds I’ve ever been around and I think everyone saw what he’s capable of when he went to High Point. He’s a terrific well-rounded head coach and he’s going to be successful for a long, long time.”
