Mississippi delegates travel for Democratic National Convention
Members of the Mississippi Democratic delegation traveled to Chicago, Illinois, for the Democratic National Convention. They gathered at the Amtrak train station on Aug. 17 for the overnight ride. The event will take place from Aug. 19 to Aug. 22 to rally Democratic nominees, Vice President Kamala Harris and running mate Tim Walz. In an interview with Martha Rabbatz on “This Week,” the mayor of Chicago, Brandon Johnson, spoke on how special it is for him to welcome Mississippi delegates since he has ties to the state. “So the very protest and demonstrations that allowed for Fannie Lou Hamer to have a seat in this convention in 1968,” said Johnson. “…the son of Sallis, Mississippi, gets to welcome the Mississippi delegation to Chicago.”
