Iceland Foods is exploring the use of in-store robots as part of a wider push to enhance its retail media capabilities. The supermarket chain has been trialling a robot developed by NEOS Robotics, originally designed for hospitality, in its innovation store at the company’s Deeside headquarters. The autonomous machine moves through the aisles, showcasing products such as Walkers crisps, Cadbury Creme Eggs, and Cherry Pepsi Max multipacks, promoting offers, and encouraging shoppers to join Iceland’s Bonus Card loyalty programme.
A video shared by Iceland Retail Media on LinkedIn shows the robot in action, with a friendly digital face guiding shoppers through the store. The robot said: “Welcome to the store. Scan to join our loyalty club and enjoy exclusive discounts, plus extra savings.”
“Merry Christmas everyone, don’t miss out on our Christmas mega deals around the store for a limited time only.”
Its touchscreen allows customers to locate specific items, while a front-facing display features a QR code for easy Bonus Card sign-ups. The robot also delivers voice prompts highlighting store deals, seasonal promotions, and other shopping incentives.
Beyond promoting products, the robot can also gather shopper insights through interactive quizzes and engagement tracking.
Iceland Retail Media’s LinkedIn post reads: “The in-store robot combines mobile shelving, digital screens, and real-time engagement, getting your brand out of aisle in a disruptive and innovative way.
“Shoppers are greeted and guided by the robot’s interactive features, from touch responses to voice prompts that direct them to specific aisles.
“Beyond visibility, robots gather valuable shopper insights through interactive quizzes and engagement tracking.
“Fully autonomous, they roam the store to maximise exposure, drive awareness, and keep your brand front of mind.”
Iceland said to “watch this space for more” and encouraged people to contact their account managers if they are interested.
The supermarket has also recently launched new in-store oversized 3D product displays.
Iceland Retail Media wrote about the displays: “These giant 3D Hanging Signs recently launched in-store, enabling featured products to rise above the competition and command attention from the moment shoppers walk in.
“These supersized installations are a perfect example of the bespoke, high-impact activations we can deliver.”
