Australian Open 2026 LIVE updates: Sinner chases AO three-peat; Preston leads early Aussie charge; Keys begins title defence

Day three of the Australian Open is under way as our first Australians start trading blows on court.

First to John Cain Arena, where the top-ranked Australian woman Maya Joint is hitting up against Czech Tereza Valentova.

Joint in the favourite in this match (she’s the 30th seed) and it’s her first Australian Open.

It’s another battle of the teenagers, with 19-year-old Joint less than a year older than world No.54 Valentova, who turns 19 next month.

If you look across to Kia Arena, Australian wildcard Taylah Preston is in action against China’s Shuai Zhang.

Zhang is the favourite as she’s ranked 86 places above Preston, but I watched some of the 20-year-old’s matches at the Hobart International, and she’s got great form and momentum heading into this match.

Preston had wins over Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, Rebecca Sramkova and Emma Raducanu in Hobart, before losing in three sets to Iva Jovic in the semi-final.

Elsewhere, Leylah Fernandez and Janice Tjen begin their round one match on ANZ Arena along with Cristian Garin and Luciano Darderi on 1573 Arena.

Matches on Rod Laver Arena and Margaret Court Arena will start at 11.30am.
