Royal Caribbean unveils Hero of the Seas, new record-breaking cruise ship

The Icon Class ship will feature a large onboard waterpark, new thrill attractions and a multilevel family suite designed for group travel.

MIAMI — Royal Caribbean is adding another record-breaking ship to its fleet, unveiling Hero of the Seas, a new Icon Class vessel set to debut in Miami in August 2027.

The cruise line says the ship will push the limits of family travel at sea, featuring the most pools on any cruise ship, with nine total, along with a record 28 dining venues.

The ship will also include Category 6, already billed as the largest waterpark at sea, with new additions like the first funnel raft slide at sea and expanded thrill attractions. Another standout feature is Crown’s Edge, a hybrid skywalk and zip line experience suspended 154 feet above the ocean.

Royal Caribbean is also introducing some of its most over-the-top accommodations yet, including a three-story “Ultimate Family Treehouse,” designed for multigenerational travel with private outdoor space and multiple levels.

“Icon Class truly set a new standard for family vacations, and Hero of the Seas takes that vision even further,” Royal Caribbean President and CEO Michael Bayley said in a statement. “With more water, more thrills and more choices for all ages, we’re continuing to build on what our guests love about Royal Caribbean and delivering the experiences families are looking for when vacationing together.”

The ship will sail seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries from Miami, with stops including the cruise line’s private island, CocoCay, in the Bahamas. Bookings are set to open this week.

Hero of the Seas will join Royal Caribbean’s other record-breaking ship, Icon of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship. Icon made its maiden voyage in 2024 and runs nearly 1,200 feet (365 meters) from bow to stern.
