The controversy surrounding the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak intensified on Tuesday after the Central Government announced the cancellation of the examination and ordered a CBI inquiry into the alleged irregularities, triggering sharp political and student reactions across the country.
The decision came after a massive protest led by the National Students Union of India (NSUI) outside Shastri Bhawan in Delhi, where hundreds of students and NSUI workers gathered to demand action against the alleged leak and the functioning of the National Testing Agency (NTA). Heavy police deployment was seen outside the Education Ministry during the demonstration, and several protesters were reportedly detained.
NSUI claimed that the government’s decision to cancel the examination itself proves that serious irregularities had taken place in the conduct of NEET-UG 2026. The organisation accused the Centre and the NTA of failing to protect the interests of lakhs of students who had prepared for the examination.
Addressing the media, NSUI National President Vinod Jakhar said, “Today’s decision to cancel NEET is a victory of student power and the voice of lakhs of aspirants across the country. NSUI was among the first organisations to raise this issue and demand justice for students. If the examination system was fair, the Government would not have been forced to cancel the exam and order a CBI probe. This clearly exposes the failure of the Education Ministry and NTA.”
He also demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and called for a complete ban on the NTA, alleging repeated failures in conducting fair and credible examinations.
NSUI further raised questions over who would be held accountable for the mental, emotional and financial distress caused to students and their families following the cancellation of the examination.
Meanwhile, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) also expressed serious concern over the alleged paper leak and demanded an impartial and time bound investigation by central agencies.
In a statement, the ABVP said any compromise with the sanctity and credibility of national level entrance examinations was unacceptable and warned that such incidents damage students’ trust in the examination system.
ABVP National General Secretary Virendra Singh Solanki said, “Lakhs of students across the country appear for examinations like NEET after years of hard work and dedication. In such a situation, any kind of irregularity seriously affects both their morale and their future. Therefore, it is essential that the entire matter be investigated impartially and that the guilty are not spared under any circumstances.”
The ABVP also called for stronger technical safeguards, better monitoring of examination centres and greater institutional accountability to ensure such controversies do not recur in future examinations.
The cancellation of NEET-UG 2026 has once again triggered a nationwide debate over the credibility of competitive examinations and the functioning of the NTA, with student organisations continuing to demand transparency, accountability and strict action against those involved in the alleged paper leak network.
