A Ryanair flight suffered a “minor technical issue” while on its way to the UK. Flight FR5090 from Malaga, Spain, to Edinburgh took off just after 6am on Wednesday and transmitted an emergency code before landing in the Scottish capital.
The crew issued a 7700 squawk code – the signal for a general emergency – and the plane was met by emergency services on the tarmac following a safe landing just after 8am. Ryanair confirmed that the aircraft experienced a “minor technical issue” and was inspected by engineers as standard procedure.
A spokesperson said: “This flight from Malaga to Edinburgh (22 Jul) experienced a minor technical issue before landing normally at Edinburgh Airport.
“Passengers disembarked normally and the aircraft was subsequently inspected by our engineers in accordance with established procedures.”
In a separate incident on the budget airline, a man was recently sucked out the window and had to be held down by terrified passengers.
Ljubisa Karović, 61, was travelling from Thessaloniki in Greece to Memmingen in Germany when the window next to him shattered and abruptly woke him up.
The Serbian national was left with burns and bruises on his right arm, stretching from his armpit to his chest, and must wear a neck brace for at least six weeks.
Mr Karović, an interpreter, told The Guardian: “The explosion is what I remember. It’s the noise before the chaos, the noise that is always there when I close my eyes to sleep.
“I am lucky. I don’t remember much, and my head and neck still hurt, but I am still alive. It could have been the seatbelt, the fact that I was still strapped in. But maybe it is fate. I believe in God, and I thank him every day.”
