Pa. State Police aircraft involved in midair crash in Carlisle, Pa., Governor Shapiro says

CARLISLE, Pa. — A small airplane and a helicopter collided midair near an airport in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday evening.

The crash happened around 7:50 p.m.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the collision involved a Bell 407 helicopter and a Cessna 150 airplane.

The FAA said two people were aboard the helicopter. The number of people aboard the airplane was not immediately known.

Authorities have not released information about injuries.

According to WHTM, Cumberland County Coroner Charles Hall confirmed his office responded to the scene.

Governor Josh Shapiro said the crash involved a Pennsylvania State Police aircraft.

“I’ve been briefed on the aircraft crash involving Pennsylvania State Police this evening in Carlisle and I am heading there now. Lori and I are praying hard and we ask all of our fellow Pennsylvanians to join us,” Shapiro posted on X.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.
