“Thank you,” the freed prisoner responded.
The man was among the 700 prisoners set to be freed today, with 4,500 eligible in total.
Labour has hailed the expanded rollout of ankle tags and other restrictions to protect victims from prisoners granted early release.
However, the prisoner said he was not required to wear one when he walked free and was not heading to probation.
