Prince Michael of Kent has stepped out for a rare and poignant public appearance this week. The 84-year-old royal, who officially stepped back from his working duties in 2022, delighted royal fans as he made a surprise visit to Woodcote Park on Friday. Arriving at the country house, which serves as the headquarters for the prestigious Royal Automobile Club, the King’s cousin showed his steadfast dedication to the organisation he has proudly served as president of since 1979.
In a touching video shared by the club, the royal was seen being carefully supported by his walking aid as he was given a grand tour of the sprawling new facilities, taking time to view a magnificent display of antique cars. Prince Michael has long held a deep and passionate fascination with motorsports, but his public outings have become increasingly sparse in recent months as he navigates his mid-eighties.
However, the royal has made a determined effort to attend a handful of deeply important events over the past few months. In September, he joined his older brother, the Duke of Kent, for a highly emotional and poignant tribute concert at Sinfonia Smith Square in London.
The evening was organised by the Future Talent charity to honour the late Duchess of Kent. Before that, on July 12, the royal was spotted making a triumphant appearance at the Wimbledon Championships.
He was assisted by his devoted son, Lord Frederick Windsor, as they took in the Men’s Singles Final from the stands at the All England Club. And in June, he took to the stage at King’s College London to present the prestigious Anglo-Hellenic League’s Runciman Award, proving that despite his increasing frailty, his unwavering commitment to his beloved causes remains as strong as ever.
Michael is the son of Prince George, Duke of Kent, the younger brother of King Edward VIII and King George VI, the late Queen Elizabeth’s father.
