Rep. maxwell frost (D-Fla.) criticized the 2024 presidential candidate and Florida governor ron desantis (R) for his “fascism” when he tore down bills recently endorsed by the governor that target blacks and members of the LGBTQ community.
Frost has a history of criticizing DeSantis, who fired him at an event last year and said “nobody wants to hear from” him. after he asked the governor to take action against gun violence.
The first congressman of Generation Zduring a “CNN Press room” interview with Jim Acosta on Sunday, went after the governor again for endorsing legislation that impact the lives of trans people and Black people.
“This is what we are facing in Florida right now. And it’s hard to track him because it seems there’s a new victim. There’s a new bill every day,” Frost said.
“But we have to call it what it is. He is abusing his power and using the state to attack political opponents and enemies. And there’s a word for that, and it’s fascism. And we have to be honest about it.”
Frost has previously stated that he I will not stop referring to DeSantis as a “fascist” last month.
“I will not stop. This is what is happening. I will not tone down my language when we are being actively oppressed. This is my house,” Frost tweeted.
Frost, on Sunday, added that Florida’s “problem” could be a problem facing the US in a few years.
“We need everyone to pay attention and talk about how trans people are being targeted, not just Black history but Black people in general, which is American history, and marginalized communities across the state,” Frost said.
“And here’s the sad, sad part, Jim. He is doing it because he is in the high polls for him in the Republican Party. And I think that says a lot about the state of that game right now.”
