Islamabad, Pakistan, July 9 (ANI): In a shocking incident, a man flashed and assaulted a woman in Gulistan-i-Jauhar, karachi.
A CCTV camera captured the incident, and the footage went viral after being posted on social media. Sindh’s Prime Minister and Information Minister were alerted to the despicable deed and instructed karachito the Sindh Deputy Inspector General of Police and the Sindh Inspector General of Police to “immediately arrest the culprit and deal with him in accordance with the law”.
Based on the state complaint, local police formally opened an investigation at the Jauhar police station on Friday, The Express Tribune reported.
This incident serves as a grim reminder of Pakistan’s inability to ensure women’s safety and security, as well as the impunity enjoyed by men who harass women in both the public and private spheres, the report notes.
The victim has been identified, according to journalistic sources, but his family refuses to collaborate in the investigation, which means that the attacker has also been identified by his family, friends and acquaintances. But sadly, no one will step forward to charge him, according to The Express Tribune.
The Express Tribune is an internationally affiliated newspaper in Pakistan.
The police also questioned two private security guards who saw the incident. The criminal could have been detained if the guards had responded quickly, the report said, adding that his actions represent the general bystander mentality of Pakistani society towards abuse and violence against women.
The general misogynistic atmosphere in Pakistan deters victims from filing FIRs because they risk reprimands from police personnel and their families, as well as lifelong stigmatization, according to The Express Tribune.
Women have been mistreated by Pakistan’s culture and legal system, and there is little room for improvement. Criminals clearly do not fear punishment, even when their actions are caught on camera, as they are fully aware of the flaws in our legal system and the general misogyny of society, the report further noted.
