The Islamabad High Court on Friday adjourned the hearing on the appeal filed by Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan jailed challenging his conviction and sentence handed down by a session court in the Toshakhana corruption case.
On August 5, a magistrate court in Islamabad convicted Khan, 70, in the case brought by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and sentenced him to three years in prison. The verdict barred him from running in general elections for five years.
A divisional court consisting of IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri presided over Friday’s hearing.

During the hearing, lawyer Amjad Pervaiz, a lawyer for the ECP, was expected to conclude his arguments. However, he did not appear because he was “extremely ill”, according to a member of his team, after which the IHC adjourned the hearing until August 28 (Monday).
The IHC has been hearing Khan’s appeal since August 22. On Thursday the court adjourned the hearing until Friday.
The defense team has already completed the arguments.
The Supreme Court also decided on Thursday to stay proceedings on Khan’s guilty plea until the IHC’s decision. The high court also caught everyone by surprise when it ordered Pakistan’s Attorney General (AGP), Mansoor Usman Awan, to submit an official report on Khan’s living conditions by August 28.
The Toshakhana case was brought by lawmakers from the ruling party in 2022 before the ECP, alleging that Khan concealed proceeds from the sale of state gifts.
The ECP first disqualified him and then filed a criminal trial case in a session court which convicted him and Khan was subsequently sent to prison.
Khan is currently in Attock jail, where he was held after his arrest following his conviction. He has also been disabled for five years.
