On the 76th Independence Day of Pakistan, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) released a moving video documentary on social media featuring some of the legends of the sport and their invaluable contribution to the cricketing history and legacy of the nation. The two-minute, twenty-one-second clip spans Pakistan’s international cricket debut in 1952, through their historic World Cup victory in 1992, to the 2022 T20 World Cup, when Pakistan’s current team led by Babar Azam reached the final of the T20 World Cup. in Australia. However, the video faced strong backlash across all social media platforms for the exclusion of Imran Khanthe man who inspired them and led them to that 1992 World Cup, from the celebration video.
The video’s caption reads, “Making history isn’t just about one day, it’s about the legends we create and the tales we write. Pakistan Cricket Team: A legacy that echoes through time.” It included all the legendary Pakistani cricket superstars who helped create history and added their own value to the sport in the nation. The clip featured artists like Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Shoaib AkhtarWaqar Yunis, Shahid Afridiand Babar as he showcases some of the glorious moments in the 1992 victory, the 2009 T20 World Cup victory and the victory over India in the 2017 Champions Trophy final.
However, Pakistan Cricket’s Twitter handle faced severe criticism from fans as they were unable to find Imran in that video and urged PCB to remove the video and repost it after editing it. This is how Pakistani cricket fans reacted…
One of the main reasons Imran was rejected from the documentary video could be because the cricketer-turned-politician was recently arrested, for the second time in four months, earlier this month. The former prime minister of Pakistan was sentenced by an Islamabad court to three years in prison and disqualified from politics for “corrupt practices.” The 70-year-old man was detained by police from his home on August 5 after the court announced its verdict in the Toshakhana case, where he was accused of being involved in selling state gifts worth hundreds of crores.
Other than Imran, the video also did not feature the hitting legend. mohammad yousufwho still holds the record for most runs in a calendar year in Test cricket, and former Pakistan batsman Saeed Anwar.
