Pokemon evolve in a variety of different ways. The most common is, of course, leveling your Pocket Monster up by earning experience through battles with trainers and their Pokemon or wild Pokemon. Some use evolutionary stones, and others still evolve when you have a high amount of Friendship and so forth.
Some, however, use the Let’s Go mechanic in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. That means they walk alongside you on the overworld, much like Pikachu or Eevee in Pokemon Let’s Go: Pikachu and Eevee. While out of their Poke Ball, they can scuffle with wild Pokemon with a simple auto-battle system and find items for you. This can be a useful way to scout out the land ahead of you when you don’t want to diverge from your current path.
In addition to issuing commands to your Pokemon, they’ll appear next to your trainer avatar as you explore the Paldea region. This is part of the Let’s Go mechanic. They act as visual companions just as much as they behave, and look so cute out there that you’ll want to watch them toddling along with you even if it doesn’t serve that much of a practical purpose.

All Pokemon That Use the Let’s Go Mechanic
The following Pokemon rely on the Let’s Go mechanic in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet to evolve:
- Rellor, which evolves into Rabsca
- Pawmo, which evolves into Pawmot
- Bramblin, which evolves into Brambleghast
There could be more in the future, if additional Pokemon end up being added to the Pokedex, but right now these are the only Pokemon with which you need to worry about using this option. It’s good to know this ahead of time, so you’re not sitting and waiting on a new Pokemon evolution to trigger and never see it. You could level up these Pokemon all the way to 100 and you’d never see any change in them unless you let them use the Let’s Go option.
All you need to do to trigger evolution is obtain the previous stage of Pokemon, such as Pawmo, then walk a certain number of steps with them beside you in Let’s Go mode. This is typically around the 1,000-step mark. You’ll see them automatically evolve when they reach this milestone, so you don’t have to do anything extra, buy or find any items or even rely on other trainers to evolve these three Pokemon.
