Amazon’s website and app crashed on Tuesday for thousands of users around the globe, frustrating many holiday season shoppers.

The platform and Amazon Web Services, which serves online applications, began having issues at 10.40am ET, according to the Daily Mail.

Areas affected included North America and parts of Europe and Asia, according to DownDetector, which monitors outages online. More than 9,000 incidents were reported.

Most users reported outages on Amazon’s website while fewer had issues with the app. Some users were unable to checkout and purchase items in their carts.

In addition, some users said they could not use Amazon Music, which comes with a $16 monthly fee.

The outage was reportedly owed to a ‘service configuration’ with Amazon’s server provider Fastly.

Amazon crashed with less than three weeks until Christmas. Many users took to Twitter to express their irritation.

One Twitter user wrote, ‘Amazon is down. The war on Christmas has begun.’

Amazon’s last outage was in July, for close to two hours. More than 38,000 users reported problems with Amazon’s online stores.
