The Australian-Macedonian director Goran Stolevski could be forgiven for now considering himself part of the mainstream, yet he is keenly aware just how much he owes to his perspective as an ‘outsider’.
Already considered “unusual” in his native North Macedonia on account of his sexuality, Stolevski moved in 1997, when he was 12 years-old, to Melbourne, Australia. But he says he has never felt like he belongs in full to either cultural environment.
