Rapping the Centre for unnecessary litigation, the Supreme Court on Wednesday imposed Rs 25,000 costs on it for challenging a Punjab and Haryana High Court order that set aside a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable’s dismissal.
CISF constable Sukhwinder Singh, who had been in service for 10 years, was removed from service for unauthorised absence of 11 days and for his alleged misconduct in conniving with the daughter of another CISF constable to leave Mumbai and attend her wedding with his younger brother at a temple in Raipur. However, the HC set aside his dismissal order with 25 per cent back wages.
A Bench led by Justice BV Nagarathna faulted the Centre for pursuing the matter despite the high court granting relief to the CISF constable.
