The Cupertino-based tech giant recently held an internal event that focused on AI and large language models, The New York Times reports.
Various teams, including people working on Siri’s voice assistant, are testing “language generation concepts” regularly.
Siri, Alexa, and the Google Assistant have been unable to understand various accents.
“Virtual assistants had more than a decade to become indispensable. But they were hampered by crude design and miscalculation, leaving room for chatbot to go up,” the report said.
Apple is reportedly planning to join the AI race after ChatGPT has taken the world by storm.
The company, however, declined to comment on Siri.
Voice assistants are “dumb as rocks,” Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella said in an interview with The Financial Times.
OpenAI has now unveiled its next-generation artificial intelligence engine, GPT-4, which powers ChatGPT and accepts image and text input.
“We have created GPT-4, the latest milestone in OpenAI’s effort to extend deep learning,” the company said in a blog post.
Last month, Google introduced its new ‘Bard’ AI service to compete against OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which is open to “trusted testers” before the company makes it “more widely available to the public.”
In the future, technologies chatbot and voice assistants will converge, experts say.
