Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has revealed why Itumeleng Khune wasn’t part of the team that lost 1-0 to Royal AM on Saturday.
Many Amakhosi fans were looking forward to see the veteran shot-stopper returning to the field after he was recently confirmed as the team captain.
Zwane confirmed that Khune was available for selection, but wasn’t picked.

WHY KHUNE DIDN’T PLAY AGAINST ROYAL AM – ZWANE
“It was because of the selection, obviously you pick the best available XI and we had to take Brandon [Peterson] and Bruce [Bvuma] to start,” he told the media.
“So we’re creating that competition and Bruce did fairly well today, it was just unfortunate we conceded from that corner because of lack of concentration.”
Following his appointment as a coach, Zwane confirmed that during the DStv Premiership that Khune will be wearing the armband.
“As things stand, Itu is the captain of the club,” Zwane told SuperSport TV.
“If Itu starts, he’s in the starting XI then he will definitely be the captain.
“If he’s maybe on the bench, or not part of the team on the day of the game then we will see who can lead the team.
“But I believe we have assembled a very good team with players who have leadership qualities.”
