Asda introduces supermarket 50% rule from tomorrow

Asda has confirmed a 50% price reduction starting tomorrow (September 7), with prices slashed on several items as part of the sale. The major supermarket gives parents a chance to save money ahead of Christmas, with many families already financially planning for the festive season. Asda’s Big Toy Rollback event is returning for another year and runs from Monday, September 7, until Tuesday, September 29.

There are discounts on big brands that are popular with children in the UK, including Barbie and Hot Wheels. Prices will revert to normal after the three-week event ends, so parents only have a short window to nab discounts on toys ahead of the busy Christmas shopping season. The discounts will be available in Asda stores across the UK as well as online. The popular annual toy sale includes deals on outdoor toys, play sets, family games and doll houses.

Included in the discounted items is a Barbie Doll and Playhouse Set, which is being slashed from £30 to £15. Meanwhile, a Duckalooz Multipack will be priced at £12.50 instead of £25.30, and a George Hapello Beany Bunch will be slashed to £6.50, down from £13.96.

Asda is one of the many major UK supermarkets that launch toy sales in the months leading up to Christmas. Asda is the first to do it in 2026, and is expected to be followed by Tesco.

The latter will reportedly launch a toy sale in mid-September. Morrisons is expected to follow suit a few weeks later, reportedly launching its toy sale on October 5.

Sainsbury’s and Aldi are also expected to launch toy sales in October.

Asda has made several announcements relating to in-store offers and product ranges in the last few weeks. Most recently, it announced a huge overhaul of its biscuit aisle, introducing a plethora of new own-brand products in its stores nationwide.

The Puffin is back on shelves for just £1 for an 8-pack after being discontinued by the retailer some years ago, much to the delight of shoppers who remember it. Meanwhile, the new range puts a particular focus on chocolate biscuit bars.

Of the new change, Becky Beecham, Product Manager of Biscuits at Asda, said: “We’ve looked at different formats, flavours and levels of indulgence, while making sure there’s still strong value across the range.”
