Fears ASOS has been hacked have emerged this morning, as some customers received a bizarre notification. ASOS customeres recieved the following notification this morning:”Dear Asos DPO and IT, we have fully compromised the Snowflake instance. Engage with us, or we will leak it.” A link was also included in the notification. DPO, or data protection officer, refers to the person appointed by a company to oversee the protection and security of customer information. While, snowflake is a cloud-based data platform used by a wide range of businesses. The chilling message was sent via a push notification which alerted those who have the app downloaded.
ASOS has yet to release a statement, meaning it is unclear which customer data might be affected, if any at all. It is also unclear how many people recieved the bizarre notification but it appears to have been delivered to a large number of the retailer’s app users.
Reports of issues with the app appear to have began at around 9.45am this morning, according to Downdetcor, which provides real-time outage monitoring. Shortly before 10am, the site experienced a spike in reported issues, with nearly 500 users reporting problems.
The British online fashion and cosmetic retailer has a strong app presence in the UK, with 40% of its 23 million active mobile and online users globally based in the UK, according to the 2026 ASOS Revenue and Usage Statistics.
Despite the strange notification, the ASOS website and app appear to be working as normal. If the retailer was hacked they are required by UK data laws to report any data breaches to officials within three days.
Asos’s share prices are feeling the pain with them dropping around 5% over the past half an hour and it continues to tumble.
