Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday said an additional 3 crore person-days will be provided to Assam along with an extra allocation of Rs 1,100 crore to ensure adequate employment for workers under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme.
He also announced that more than 528 roads and 62 bridges will be constructed in Assam at a cost of Rs 1,817.91 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.
Speaking at the launch of Mukhya Mantri Utkarsh Yojana in the north-eastern state, the minister noted that the Centre has sanctioned many development projects for the state.
“A sum of Rs 42 crore has been released to Assam under the Pulse Mission to boost local production of ‘tur’, ‘urad’, and ‘masoor’. The initiative focuses on increasing cultivation areas, distributing high-quality seeds, and providing processing mills to farmers. Besides, Rs 40.5 crore has been approved for the Power Tiller scheme, and Rs 4.5 crore released for the Digital Mission. Approval has also been granted for the procurement of 62,500 metric tonnes of mustard from Assam,” he added.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Sarma, who was also present at the event, launched key initiatives under the Samaveshi Aajeevika Yojana, distributed grants along with agricultural machinery and tools to farmer producer organizations to strengthen farmers’ productivity and livelihoods.
“The programme also saw disbursal of Rs 120 crore under Samabeshit Aajeevika Yojana and DAD-NRLM, in the presence of Hon’ble Union Minister @ChouhanShivraj,” he said in a post on X.
Assam will go to the polls this year.
