Bajwa: Year of bad governance, Mann should resign

Congress top leader Partap Singh Bajwa on Thursday called the first year of Aam Aadmi Party rule in Punjab a “year of bad governance” and pointed to issues including law and order and breach of guarantees. pre-voting, including provision of Rs 1,000 per month to women.

The opposition leader alleged that the state was plunged into an “economic disaster” under the AAP’s one-year rule. “Apart from this, the law and order situation in Punjab had completely collapsed,” he added.

Bajwa, in a statement, said the crime rate in the state has skyrocketed since the AAP took over the state.

“I need not repeat as the people of Punjab already know. This government failed miserably to maintain the law and order situation. Some of the most serious crimes that took place last year included the RPG attack on the intelligence headquarters in Mohali, the murder of singer Sidhu Moosewalathe murder of Nakodar cloth merchant Timmy Chawla, the escape of gangster Deepak Tinu and the violence of Ajnala,” he said.

“These significant lapses have established that Mann is unfit to govern the state. Do you think there is a government? Mann should resign because he had an iota of self-esteem left,” Bajwa said.

He also cited incidents of attacks on Ajnala police by self-proclaimed Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh and his followers, the clash at Goindwal Sahib jail that left two inmates dead, and jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s Tuesday night television interview.

She criticized the AAP government for not fulfilling its promise to give Rs 1,000 a month to women. “The government must explain what prevented it from providing Rs 1,000 a month to women aged 18 and over, which was the AAP’s flagship programme. Despite desperate efforts, the arena is still off limits to ordinary people. Promises with farmers were not kept. Moong dal was not bought in the minimum support price. No cash incentive was given to farmers for stubble management,” Bajwa said.

He criticized the government for rising debt, saying that economists have already forecast that debt in the state will touch Rs 3.47 lakh crore by the end of this fiscal year.

Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring also lashed out at Bhagwant Mann’s government over the debt issue. Warring said that the AAP government took Rs 31,000 crore in the last year and has now proposed to raise Rs 35,000 crore in the next fiscal year. He also accused the state government of spending “heavily” on ads in other states.

BJP National Secretary General Tarun Chugh also criticized the AAP government over the issue of law and order in the state.
Chugh claimed that the criminals were making calls to businessmen to extort money from them. “There is no law and order in Punjab. People are getting extortion calls,” he alleged.

He alleged that mafias such as the arena mafia and the transportation mafia still operate in the state.
