Barcelona plan to offer Inaki Pena new contract

Barcelona are reportedly planning on offering goalkeeper Inaki Pena a new contract in a bid to secure his future at the club.

Pena is currently Barca’s first choice goalkeeper, due to Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s injury, although the Catalans have brought in Wojciech Szczęsny as competition.

Mundo Deportivo are reporting that Barca plan to open contract talks in the coming months and are hoping Pena will stay on.

The stopper’s current deal only runs until 2026, meaning he will enter the final 12 months of his contract next summer.

Barca aren’t yet completely sure when Ter Stegen will be ready to return to first-team action, but there is a chance he may not be ready until next season.

Pena’s position in the team had looked uncertain after he first came in for Ter Stegen, and Szczesny also arrived, but a good display in El Clasico has given him a huge boost.

The big job now for Pena is to maintain that form for the rest of the season, particularly with Szczesny waiting in the wings.
