THANK YOU, India, August 30, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Bayer announced today that, after more than 25 years of service, D Narain (D), current president of Bayer South Asia; Vice President, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Bayer CropScience Limited (BCSL); and Bayer’s global head of small farming, will retire at the end of November 2023. Simon Thorsten Wiebusch (Simon) will assume the role of Chairman of Bayer South Asia and Vice President, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Bayer CropScience Ltd (BCSL) on November 1stof 2023. Simon will assume these new responsibilities, in addition to his current role as Head of National Division (CDH) of India, bangladesh & Sri Lanka (IBSL) in Bayern Crop science.
Simon moved to India in December 2018 as COO of the IBSL Cluster and, in partnership with D, established the cluster as a strong growth engine for smallholder farmers before being appointed Country Division Director (CDH) in early 2022. Simon started his career at Bayer in 1998 at the company headquarters. headquarters in Germany. He built his professional experience working in multiple divisions of the company in various geographies, such as Germany, Eastern Europeand Asia. Before assuming his current position at Indiawas CEO of Bayer’s Crop Science division in Southeast Asia. Simon has a degree in Economics from University of Applied Sciences in Essen, Germany and an MBA from the University of Bradford. He has more than two decades of experience in the agricultural industry. He currently lives in Mumbai with his wife Tanja and children and will continue to operate from Bayer’s office in Thane, Maharashtra.
D Narain (D), with a career spanning nearly three and a half decades in global agriculture, has passionately strived to provide innovative solutions for the betterment of smallholders globally and, with the efforts of the last five years, has established the global smallholder business as integral to the long-term growth of the company, with a commitment to achieving results that improve smallholder incomes and livelihoods. Over the next few months, D Narain will work with his successors on India and Germany to facilitate a seamless transition before his retirement from Bayer. Even after his retirement, D will continue to collaborate with Bayer to expand his partnerships and thought leadership engagements with stakeholders, with the goal of improving smallholder income and sustainability.
