BJP: Rahul’s comments hurt the feelings of the OBC community

A day after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was convicted in a libel case for his “Modi surname comment”, the BJP’s Gujarat unit said on Friday that Gandhi had hurt the feelings of the CBO community.

Gujarat BJP Vice President Gordhan Zadaphia and party state spokesman Yamal Vyas addressed a press conference on the matter.

Citing Zadaphia, a party statement said: “A court in surat has punished Raul Gandhi and his Parliament membership has been terminated under the provisions of the People’s Representatives Act. During the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign, Rahul Gandhi addressed a community by hurting their feelings. And such statements come from Rahul Gandhi not for the first time. Several cases have been brought against Rahul Gandhi for his various comments.”

The case against Gandhi was for his comment: “Why do all thieves have Modi’s name?”. He made the comment on April 13, 2019 during an election rally at Kolar in Karnataka.

“Many congressional leaders have used indecent language against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but the latter had swallowed the insults. The prime minister was called ‘low caste’ and ‘maut ka saudagar’, but he bought it. But how can an entire community swallow such insults? Zadaphia added.

Zadaphia added that if the Congress party is not happy with the court’s verdict, it can go to the higher court. But, he added, in commenting on the verdict, Congress should not undermine the court.

“Before Rahul Gandhi, many leaders have been disqualified from Parliament. Every citizen of the country is obliged to respect the constitution. Rahul Gandhi will not save himself by accusing the BJP or the government,” the statement quoted Zadaphia as saying.
