Blind dog with unusual tactic to avoid bumping into walls is desperate for home

A blind dog who has developed a unique way of finding her way around is desperately searching for a home after spending her entire life in a shelter.

Layla uses her front legs like a guide, stretching them out in front of her as she walks to check for walls and obstacles in her path. The three-year-old mixed breed was rescued as a tiny puppy in Egypt and has never experienced the love and comfort of a family home.

Instead, Layla has spent her whole life in a shelter, where the familiar surroundings are all she has ever known.

Despite being blind, the brave pup has made incredible progress and has slowly grown in confidence thanks to the patience and care of the shelter owner.

Now, rescuers are hoping someone will give Layla the chance she has always deserved – a loving home where she can take her time to adjust and finally know what it feels like to belong.

It is a small habit, yet one that serves as a powerful reminder to her rescuers of just how much she has had to overcome.

Those who care for her say she was once incredibly timid, but following years of dedicated patience from the shelter owner, she has blossomed in confidence and now delights in spending time with adults and other gentle dogs.

However, as the shelter is the only home she has ever known, rescuers are aware that leaving it will prove daunting for her.

They believe it may take Layla considerable time to settle and feel secure in a new home, but insist that anyone prepared to be patient will find a tender, affectionate dog who simply needs somebody to have faith in her.

Layla, available for adoption through Miracle’s Mission, is seeking a peaceful home without children, where she can find her feet in her own time.

She could contentedly share her home with another placid dog and would thrive with owners prepared to help her grow in confidence and acquire the skills she has never had the opportunity to develop.

German shepherd cross Nour was born on the streets without eyes and navigated the world through his sense of smell and sound before being rescued by the non-profit animal welfare organisation.

The three-year-old dog was taken in by the charity last year but in almost 365 days, nobody has stepped up to offer him a place in their home and heart.

On another devastating occasion, an adorable dog has been overlooked in kennels for three years and it’s all because of one heartbreaking reason.

Poor Frida was also taken in by Miracle’s Mission as a puppy but has struggled to find a permanent home due to her disability.
