Merryweather has been working back from an oblique strain which he suffered on April 14. He joined the team in New York after completing a four-appearance rehab assignment at triple-A Buffalo where he allowed three earned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out five over three innings.
The 29-year-old settled in as one of the Blue Jays top late-inning relievers at the start of the season striking out seven batters over 4.1 scoreless innings and recorded two saves before being placed on the injured list.
To make room on the 40-man roster, Bryan Baker has been optioned to triple-A Buffalo and Anthony Kay has been placed on the COVID-related injured list.
