The anti-gunda squad of the Pimpri-Chinchwad police on Saturday arrested a 38-year-old bookie from Kalewadi space, for allegedly betting on a Cricket World Cup match between England and South Africa.
The accused has been recognized as Dinesh Harish Sharma, 38, a resident of Kalewadi.
The raid was carried out at Adi Amma Bliss Society in Kalewadi space of the Pimpri-Chinchwad metropolis.
The raid, led by assistant police inspector HV Mane from anti-gunda squad and his unit crew, resulted within the seizure of varied objects and money amounting to ₹40 lakh. The confiscated belongings embrace two cellphones and one calculator.
Appearing on a tip-off obtained by an informer the anti-gunda squad, initiated the operation after studying a few large-scale cricket betting syndicate working from a flat inside a society in Kalewadi space. The knowledge was verified by the police crew. Subsequently, the raid was carried out on flat no. 701 in Adi Amma Bliss society, the place the accused particular person was caught accepting bets.
Mane mentioned, “The accused was enjoying for different accused particularly Dhanu and Shivan and the search of those two accused is underway.’’
A case has been registered at Wakad police station below related sections of the Maharashtra Playing Act.
