An Essex schoolboy who sadly died after a serious incident in Brentwood has been named. Bobby Bloomfield, 12, has been named in touching tributes paid following the tragic collision on Sunday.
Emergency services were called to Ashwells Road on Sunday where Bobby was found with serious injuries. He was rushed to hospital for immediate treatment but sadly later died. A boy aged 15 and a man aged 43, both from the Pilgrims Hatch area, have been arrested on suspicion of murder. The pair are being quizzed in custody as the investigation continues.
In a heartbreaking statement, Bobby’s family said they are enduring a nightmare and that his death has left a hole that “can never be filled”.
The full statement read: “Losing a child is every parent’s nightmare. We are living that nightmare, and no words can every explain how we are feeling.
“Bobby brought light and life into all our lives, and we have lost that forever. The hole he has left can never be filled.
“We would ask for our privacy to be respected as we pull together as a family at this horrific time.”
Essex Police has now formally confirmed the identity of the victim.
A police spokesman said: “Essex Police are now in a position to name the child who tragically died after a serious incident in Pilgrims Hatch, near Brentwood, on Sunday, June 7.
“12-year-old Bobby Bloomfield sustained serious injuries in the Ashwells Road area shortly before 5.40pm and very sadly died a short time later in hospital. We’re continuing to support his family and loved ones.”
Floral tributes and candles have been placed at the scene in Ashwells Road. One heartfelt note read: “Greatly loved by everyone and you will be greatly missed always and forever”, while another described the youngster as “forever missed”.
Another tribute said: “Greatly loved by everyone and you will be greatly missed always and forever”.
DCI Louise Metcalfe of Essex Police’s serious crime unit said she is “confident this was an isolated incident” with the force “working hard to build a full picture of the circumstances”.
“I’m acutely aware that this incident is likely to have a significant impact in our community, and I know the investigation team is doing everything possible to fully understand the circumstances and progress this appropriately”, said DCI Metcalfe.
She added: “The loss of a child is every parent’s nightmare, and I would ask that this family’s privacy is fully respected at this time, both in person and online.
“Our key local partners have also been updated on this incident.”
Local residents are being urged to review any CCTV from from 8am on Sunday 7 June through to 7pm and contact the force via its public portal.
