LONDON, July 6 (Reuters) – British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly has warned against any attack on the Indian High Commission in London, after media reports on a poster promoting a rally for supporters of a separate state for the Sikh community.
“Any direct attack on the Indian High Commission in London is completely unacceptable,” Cleverly said on Twitter on Thursday.
“We have made it clear to @VDoraiswami (Indian High Commissioner to Britain, Vikram Doraiswami) and the Government of India that the safety of High Commission staff is paramount.”
Indian media reported on Thursday that the poster had been circulating on Twitter to promote a July 8 rally for “Khalistan,” a name created by supporters of a non-existent independent Sikh state.
