LONDON, Aug 31 (Reuters) – The British Royal Navy said in a statement on Thursday that its warships and patrol aircraft tracked a number of Russian vessels near its waters in what it called “a concerted monitoring operation”.
The Royal Navy said submarine fighter frigates and P8 Poseidon patrol aircraft monitored the Russian Navy’s movements in the English Channel, North Sea and North Atlantic, without specifying when the operation took place.
The Russian vessels included the Boikiy and Grad corvettes, the cruiser Marshal Ustinov and the Udaloy-class destroyer Severomorsk, among others, according to the statement.
Britain is a key defense provider to Ukraine and Russia has condemned Britain’s aid to kyiv.
The Royal Navy routinely tracks the movements of Russian warships sailing near its waters.
