Bruce Lehrmann settles defamation case against News Corp and Samantha Maiden

Former federal liberal political staffer Bruce Lehrmann withdrew his libel case against News Corp after the parties settled out of court.

Federal Court records show that Lehrmann’s attorneys filed a stay notice Tuesday afternoon.

His claims against Red Diez and ABC are still active.

The news.com.au story at the center of Lehrmann’s lawsuit against News Corp and national politics editor Samantha Maiden was amended to include an editor’s note, which reads: “Bruce Lehrmann launched libel proceedings alleging that this article accused him of sexually assaulting Brittany. Higgins.

“These proceedings have been stayed and resolved to the satisfaction of Mr. Lehrmann and the publisher of this website.

News.com.au notes that a criminal charge of sexual assault was brought against Mr Lehrmann and later dropped. News.com.au is not suggesting that he was guilty of that charge.”

More to come.
