Actor Bruce Willis has been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, his family said in a statement posted on social media Thursday.
“Unfortunately, challenges with communication are just one symptom of the disease Bruce faces. While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis,” read the statement shared by his ex-wife, Demi Moore.
Frontotemporal dementia is described by the Mayo Clinic as “an umbrella term for a group of brain disorders” that generally affect areas of the brain associated with personality, behavior and language.
Willis retired from acting in 2022 after his aphasia diagnosis.
