Cadillac vs. Astoria Pig ‘N Pancake: The Pig wins

On Tuesday morning, Aug. 11, traffic through Astoria slowed to a crawl as firefighters, Medix and police officers responded to a car that hit the side of Pig ‘N Pancake on Marine Drive and Bond Street.
Though the diner remained almost unscathed, the driver’s Cadillac XTS suffered major damage to the front end of the car as it scraped along the restaurant’s windows and handicap sign. No injuries were reported.
According to Astoria Police Officer Zach Stockton, the driver accidentally put the car in drive toward the building, then put the car into reverse and reversed into Marine Drive, before putting the car back in drive and hitting the nearby curb.
“It’s definitely a first,” said Stockton.
As a tow truck scooped the wounded Cadillac, firefighters blocked traffic in either direction, leading to a temporary delay along Marine Drive.
“If you have an accident, even a small one, it can shut down the main way through town for up to a few hours depending on the investigation,” said Stockton. However, for drivers along Marine Drive, the blockage only lasted for 15 minutes before traffic was flowing through the city again.
Since 2016, over 225 crashes like this have caused only property damage on Marine Drive, according to Oregon Department of Transportation statistics.
