Celtics sign veteran centre Enes Kanter, guard Dennis Schroder

Enes Kanter is returning to the Boston Celtics.

The club announced Friday they signed the 10-year veteran centre, who previously played with the Celtics during the 2019-20 season. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Enes has a unique ability to both score and rebound. Beyond his on-court contributions, he is a great teammate. We are thrilled he chose to return to Boston,” Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens said in a media release.

The 29-year-old Kanter was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers on Nov. 20, 2020, one year after signing a two-year, $10 million contract with the Celtics. He averaged 11.2 points and 11 rebounds in 72 games with the Trail Blazers last season.

Boston also signed guard Dennis Schroder. Although terms were not released, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Schroder signed a one-year, $5.9 million deal.

Schroder, 27, averaged 15.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 5.8 assists in 61 games with the Los Angeles Lakers last year. He reportedly turned down a four-year, $84-million contract extension from the Lakers during the season hoping to land a larger payday in free agency.

Rookie forward Sam Hauser also inked a two-way contract with the Celtics. The 23-year-old wrapped up his senior year with the University of Virginia with career-best 16.0 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 25 games.
