The central government has sent a letter to eight states, Bengal being one of them. He says that the state governments together with the Center should identify illegal Aadhaar cards and those people who do not have Aadhaar cards.
A new war of words has broken out between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over a letter sent by the Center to the West Bengal government.
The central government has sent the letter to eight states, Bengal being one of them. He says that the state governments together with the Center should identify illegal Aadhaar cards and those people who do not have Aadhaar cards. The central government has also specified several areas where this exercise should start.
On Monday, mama banerjee responded to the Center on the subject.
She said this was a roundabout way of implementing the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and Citizenship Amendment Act in West Bengal, and that her government would not comply with it.
“The removal of illegal Aadhaar cards means the implementation of CAA indirectly. They are trying to implement NRC, they have also selected areas. Do you remember that time when people protested, so many people died and people didn’t get justice? Every time the elections come, the BJP uses polarization,” the chief minister said. She also alleged that it was a plot to attack a community.
Sources say this is the second such letter from the Center to mention illegal Aadhaar cards.
The Mamata Banerjee government has vehemently opposed the NRC and CAA.
BJP spokesman Samik Bhattacharya said: “Our main motto is to prevent illegal people from settling in India. Aadhaar verification is very necessary. This is the main ideology on which our party is based. Don’t follow me, we will.
Further attacking the Center and the union’s Home Minister, Mamata Banerjee said that all the violence in West Bengal is planned. He also severely criticized Amit Shah’s statement that the Bengal government will collapse in 2025. The CM said that the Home Minister had no right to make such a statement and demanded his resignation.
