A five-judge constitution bench made up of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices SK Kaul, S Ravindra Bhat, PS Narasimha and Hima Kohli is hearing arguments on a batch of pleadings seeking legal validation of marriages between people of the same sex.
The Center has agreed to establish a committee to examine suggestions from the LGBTQIA+ community to alleviate the problems they face, Attorney General Tushar Mehta told the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
SG Mehta said the committee will be headed by the Cabinet Secretary and petitions seeking same-sex marriage can give their suggestions to the committee through Mehta.
