Chaos as horror crash leaves major motorway shut for hours

Emergency services are at the scene of the crash on the M2 westbound.

The incident has been described as a “serious collision” involving one vehicle that happened shortly before 1pm.

The vehicle struck the central reservation barrier and overturned, National Highways said in a travel alert.

Kent Police is leading the response to the incident, and has been supported by the South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire & Rescue Service.

“Due to the seriousness of the incident, Kent Police are carrying out detailed collision investigations at the scene,” National Highways said.

“This process is essential to establish the circumstances of the incident, which means the closure is expected to remain in place throughout the afternoon.”

Traffic officers from National Highways have also been in attendance, releasing stationary traffic from within the closure area.
