Chaos in major UK city as emergency services swarm to incident

Emergency services remain at Liverpool’s waterfront after the body of a man was found in the water at the Pier Head this afternoon. Merseyside Police confirmed officers were called to the scene at around 12.15pm today (Monday, June 15) following a report that a man’s body had been discovered in the water.

The man has not yet been formally identified and enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing. A post-mortem examination will be carried out to establish the cause of death. A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “We can confirm emergency services are currently at the Pier Head in Liverpool.At around 12.15pm today (Monday 15 June), we received a report that the body of a man had been found in the water. He is yet to be formally identified and enquiries are ongoing. A post mortem examination will take place to establish the cause of death.”

The Liverpool Echo reports that a cordon remains in place near the ferry terminal and that firefighters are moving people away from the area.
