Police have notified eight officials, including spokespersons, of the BJP’s Chhattisgarh unit for allegedly posting hateful content on social media, police said on Friday.
The police said the eight BJP officials have been asked to appear before the police and provide factual statements related to the said posts.
The eight are the treasurer of the Nandan Jain party, an IT cell in charge of Chhattisgarh. BJP Sunil Pillai; spokesperson Sanjay Shrivastava; the president and spokesman of the BJP business cell, Kedarnath Gupta; BJP Yuva morcha Chairman of the Board Yogi Sahu; Yuva Morcha Division Coordinator Kamal Sharma; DD Nagar Yuva Morcha Chairman Shubhankar and party worker Bittu Panigrahi.
The notice came four days after the Congress party complained to the Raipur the police and accused BJP members of spreading hate through social media, including the party’s official account.
One of the notices sent out by the police cites community violence in Biranpur village in Bemetara district, where a 23-year-old was killed. The notices also said that BJP officials had made derogatory comments against CM Bhupesh Baghel.
