Late last year, Square Enix announced its racing title chocobo gp would receive “no more large-scale updates” and that it would be suspend sales of paid coin Mythril in January 2023which allowed players to spend real money to unlock additional content.
Now, in the latest development, the US eShop listing for Chocobo GP has been updated with a “release date” of June 15, 2023 (That’s last week). So what is going on here? Well, it seems to be connected to Chocobo GP “Lite”, which was recently removed. Users with this free version you will now be prompted to upgrade to the full game to $49.99 / £39.99 and the saved data will be transferred.
And in case you missed it, all of the existing paid content in the game can now apparently also be unlocked with Gil tickets and coins, with no Mythril in the offing.
Nintendo Life reviewed the latest version of the Final Fantasy theme corridor (1.4.1 – released in February 2023) and can confirm that you can now unlock characters like Cloud Strife without having to worry about buying a season pass or shelling out real money. Instead, you can get it with 50 Tickets.
Other characters, items, and unlocks are also available with Tickets and Gil. Both of these coins can be earned by completing missions and leveling up in multiple modes in Chocobo GP. As you can see on the screenshot, the Mythril Shop has been completely removed, leaving only the Ticket and Gil Shop:
